Do we talk about running too much?  My long suffering wife would say yes, emphatically!  My running friends would say we don’t talk about running enough. We know though that running hijacks our lives.  If it’s not talking about the run we just finished then it’s about the race we we have planned.  But it’s OK, you’re among friends here at Reggae Marathon.  We can’t talk enough about running in Negril in December. Here are some of the ways you know you’re talking about running just a little much:

1. We schedule our lives around our runs…especially our long runs.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve modified my weekend plans to accomodate a long run on Sunday morning.
2. We call food fuel.  And we can tell how many calories of carbo and protein are in every meal.  While I’ve toned this down since my competitive Triathlon days, every once in a while I catch heck at home when I let the word ‘fuel’ slip out.
3. We react with disgust when someone asks how long a Marathon is.  “Really…you don’t know how long a marathon is” if we even deign to respond.
4. We are meteorologists.  That and keeping a weather app on the home screen of our Smartphones.  I have a weather app widget on my home screen with Negril as my home city.  Yes it can get a little confusing but it’s worth it.
5. We share our training and especially our Race experiences on Facebook.  We expect our friends to like our updates;  we like all the updates of our friends.  It’s a mad circle isn’t it.
6. We can tell you to the second what our PB was.  Mine was 42 min 27 seconds for a 10K when I was…oh wait…that was quite some time ago.

The best time to talk about running?  While running of course!

I wouldn’t say runners talk about running too much…but I wouldn’t be too far from the truth.
