Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

4 Days to Reggae Marathon: Negril

Negril. My spiritual home!  I love all parts of Jamaica, have a fondness for the Blue Mountains on the east side of the Island but I go crazy for the beaches in Negril.  Reggae Marathon is the highlight of my year for both running and vacationing!

I drove my wife crazy packing for Reggae Marathon.  The final packing wasn’t the issue, it was the task of selecting what to bring to Negril:

  • Running Shoes
  • Running Cap
  • Running Tights and Top
  • Running Socks
  • Sunscreen
  • Bathing Suit
  • T Shirts
  • Shorts
  • Sandals

That’s it!  Now can you see why she went crazy?  I’m ready for for Negril and Reggae Marathon for sure!

Reggae Marathon runs along Norman Washington Boulevard, the main road that runs parallel to the Beach in Negril.  We start and finish at Long Bay Beach Park.  The closed course heads into the town of Negril, about 3 miles from the Start/Finish under cover of darkness…we start promtly at 5:15 am this Saturday morning.  Most of us get to the turn-around in Negril as the sun is coming up (other than those Elites of course who burn up the course).  Check out this view of the Negril River at sunrise…one of my favourite places along the course:

DSC07564Just past this point is the 3 Mile Aid station so if you’re running or walking the 10K this Saturday you’re half way home!

Until next time…
