What to do in Negril

Nothing!  It’s called ‘The Capital of Casual’ for good reason:  Vacationing in Negril is laid back…lounging on the white sand beach is a great way to chill out from the busy world back home.  And since you’re in Negril for Reggae Marathon there is the matter of running early morning on Saturday.  After you collect your Reggae Marathon Finisher Medal, there are some things to do beyond the beach.  Here are a few of our favourites:

jambooKool Runnings Adventure Park in Negril has some unique experiences and is centrally located along the beach strip. There’s a Water Park, Animal Exhibit and Show, Go Karting, and tours of the Great Morass.  New at Kool Runnings is Laser Tag.  This is their web site:  Kool Runnings Adventure Park.

Jamaica-YS-FallsYS Falls a short drive from Negril is another day attraction.  There are waterfalls, cool pools, gardens and a canopy ride.  Check them out here:  YS Falls.

appleton_estate

Appleton Estate is another day trip from Negril that is worth it.  It’s a working rum producing estate and beyond the tasty tasting opportunity, you’ll see how sugar cane is turned into one of the best rums in the world.  You can find them here:  Appleton Estate.

Drum Chicken.  OK while not a tour or destination, you’ll see numerous roadside vendors cooking up tasty bar-b-que chicken.  Stop and have lunch!  Wash it down with a cold Red Stripe.  It doesn’t get more Jamaican than this!

Patties on the Beach.  If you’re sensing a ‘relaxing on the beach’ trend here, you right on.  There are a few places to buy a hot and spicy meat or vegetarian Patty right on the beach…again washed down with a cold Red Stripe.

nt031215Negril’s West End…The Cliffs.  A cab ride away from most of the beach front hotels is one of the highlights of Negril:  taking in the sunset from the western-most part of Jamaica.  Rick’s Cafe is the most well known but almost all of the restaurants and bars that cling to the Cliffs provide great vantage points for the World’s Best Sunset.  And the food is very good as well.

‘I’m bored’.  No, that won’t be in your vocabulary while in Negril.

Until next time…
