Special runners at the 2010 Reggae Marathon

Everyone at the Reggae Marathon is special.  Runners, organizers and especially the volunteers who took such good care of us before, during and after the event.  The 2010 Reggae Marathon again attracted special runners. Here are some of those people who ran in Reggae Marathon 2010.  It was a pleasure to have run with you:

  • Reggae Marathon Lifetime Honourees:
    • Burt Carlson, USA, 84 years old completed his 6th Reggae Marathon.  Burt has run more than 314 marathons
    • Roy Thomas, Jamaica, 83 years old, competed in every RM and Grand Prix Road to RM series
  • Francisco Cesar, Brazil
  • Carrie Tollefson, USA.  Carrie is an Olympian who represented the USA in Athens in 2004 in the 1500 metres.  Carrie ran the 10k.
  • Laura Skladzinski.  Laura just completed her goal of running 50 marathons before she   turned 25.  She’s the youngest woman to have run marathons in all 50 states in the USA.
  • Terry Refjimbal. Female champion in last year’s marathon.
  • Jaap Van de Berg, the Netherlands. Jaap is a member of the exclusive Country Club marathon runners – runners who have completed marathons or ultra marathons in more than 30 countries around the world.  Reggae Marathon in Jamaica marks the 56th country in which Jaap has run a marathon.
  • Brian Huberty, USA, a top contender in this year’s marathon.  He’s run 10 marathons so far this year.
  • Angie and Kevin Newton (USA). Angie and Kevin are faithful Facebook Friends of Reggae Marathon
  • Peter Bennett and Yen Nguyen. Reggae Marathon is their #46 country marathon for the goal of running a marathon in 50 different countries.  They’ve also completed marathons in all 50 states, and Washington, DC twice!
  • Tristan Miller from Melbourne Australia.  Tristan has a goal of running 52 marathons in 52 weeks.  Reggae Marathon is #49.  On Sunday, he headed to run #50 in Cayman and planned to head to Antarctica for marathon #51.  Tristan’s runs have covered all 7 continents and 43 countries.
  • hYasmin Lewis. Yasmin used to be the Marketing Manager at KIA Motors in Jamaica and worked with the Jamdammers to stage a 5K race in 2005. Since then she’s moved back to the US.  Now she’s brought a few friends home to run in Jamaica.
  • Laura Cozik. Laura is the Founder and CEO of Team Lipstick, an all female triathlon team based in New York City, Washington D.C. and New Jersey.   You might know Laura from the CNN Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge.  She’s the Athletic Director and trains Dr. SanjayGupta, his CNN staff, and viewers from across the country for the sport of triathlon.  Laura has a background that includes 20 years of dancing, 20 years as a fitness leader, 10 years as a nationally ranked ballroom dance champion, and since 2006, she has also been an active triathlete.  She and Team Lipstick spent a week in Jamaica getting ready for Reggae Marathon
  • Rupert Green, Reggae Marathon repeat winner in 2009 and 2010
  • Michael Feurtado: Former Jamaica national record holder and member of the host club, Jamdammers Running Club of Kingston
  • “The Rev” Don Kienz.  Baptist Minister and member of MarathonManiacs club.  Rev has run more than 70 marathons.
