$15 Million goal at PanCaribbean’s Sigma Corporate Run

PanCaribbean’s Sigma Corporate Run 2011 is hoping to raise $15 Million for the Victoria Jubilee Hospital’s Neo-Natal Care Unit. The event, which is in its 13th year, will partner with The National Health Fund (NHF) and Reggae Marathon to hold Jamaica’s largest road race on Sunday, February 20, 2011. Walkers, runners and persons in wheelchairs will participate in this 5.6k (3.5mile) race starting at Knutsford Boulevard and ending at Emancipation Park, New Kingston.

“The Victoria Jubilee Hospital has served many families over the years and needs the nation’s support to ensure continued growth and development in the quality of health care and the service capacity of the Neo‐Natal Care Unit.”, noted Tanya Miller, Vice President, Group Marketing, Pan Caribbean Financial Services Limited.

Over 730 babies are delivered monthly at Victoria Jubilee almost four times that of the University Hospital of the West Indies, with the overwhelming majority from the most challenged socio‐economic level of our country.

Besides the Reggae Marathon, other major sponsors include Catherine’s Peak, National Baking Company, RJR Communications Group, The Gleaner Company Limited, Sagicor Life, Locker Room Sports, Digicel Group, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, Jamaica Producers Group, Nestle’ Jamaica and Ocean Spray WATA (Wisynco).

“We have also added a Watch‐yourself‐finish feature with links from each finisher’s results to their own video clip plus link to Facebook,” Miller said. “We have also launched our Facebook page…you can follow Sigma Corporate Run on Twitter @SigmaCorpRun or twitter.com/SigmaCorpRun if you are not on Twitter.”

This year’s race will again feature the world‐class MyLaps® Timing for all participants up to a limit of 15,000 persons.

PanCaribbean Sigma Corporate Run began in 1999 in downtown Kingston at Breezy Castle with a target of $500,000.00 for the Jamaica Foundation for Cardiac Disease. The theme “Straight from the Heart” was well supported with 297 persons completing the run. Over its 12 year history beneficiaries include

  • The University Hospital Labour Ward
  • Jamaica Aids Support for Life
  • the Renal Units of the UHWI
  • KPH & Cornwall Regional Hospitals
  • The Bustamante Hospital for Children
  • Paediatric wards for Spanish Town, May Pen, St. Ann’s Bay, Sav‐la‐mar, Cornwall Regional and Mandeville Regional Hospitals

The 2010 recipients, Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre, Jamaica Association for the Deaf and the Jamaica Society for the Blind benefited from the $11,181,000.00 raised through partnership with The National Health Fund.

If you’re in Kingston this weekend, come out and show true ‘Reggae Marathon’ support for PanCaribbean’s Sigma Run.

Until next time…
