The Running Girlz invade Negril for Reggae Marathon

In 2009 the beaches of Negril were invaded by the ‘Running Girlz’, 20 + women from Canada who came to run in the Reggae Marathon.  They promised to return.  Fast forward to 2011 and ‘they’re back’.

The ‘Running Girlz’ are a 50 + group of women from the Burlington/Oakville area just west of Toronto in Canada.  They’ve been running for years and have found equal health and friendship benefits.  They also love to combine running with a ‘women only’ running vacation.  They’ve run in lots of places but have fallen in love with Jamaica and Reggae Marathon.  With the exception of one, 17 of the 18 Running Girlz who are travelling to Negril in a couple of weeks are running the ½ Marathon this year.  It won’t be hard to spot them:  just look for the Running Girlz T-shirts.

“On a whim we decided to look for a ‘hottie’…a warm weather race” noted Janicke Ziemer chief Running Girl.   That led to the decision to run as a group in How Do I Get Him Back?

The Running Girlz epitomize everything good about running.  The simple pleasure of just running combined with socializing and friendship of running with a group.  I’ve made a ‘date’ to meet with them just before the Pasta Party Friday night to have my picture taken with them. Look out for us…we shouldn’t be hard to find:  18 women + 1 guy!

Let the…friendly…invasion begin!

Until next time…
