Why I run

I run for so many reasons yet when asked I can never give a simple…or short…answer.  Is it like that for you?

I run for my health:  going to fight to stay healthy the natural way for as long as I can.

I run for a cause:  raising funds to support research into heart disease and stroke is my personal cause.  Do you have one?

I run because it’s my ‘alone time’:  cheaper than therapy…better than drugs.

I run because it’s fun:  in my mind’s eye my feet hardly ever touch the ground…even on those morning’s when I’m plodding.

Every once in a while though I need a little inspiration to get out and run.  I seek out a good inspirational quote or photo.  These are some of the ones I’ve recently found particularly inspiring:

iRun Magazine

If I had to give a simple answer, the last line, “I run for no reason at all” would be the best.  And it may even explain why I’ve been at it for over 30 years now.

I Like to Run

Amen to that.  OK, on those Long Slow Distance runs shortly before the mid-point I may not have that sentiment but almost always things pick up in the second half.  The good thing about running is that I never remember my ‘bad’ runs. I sure love the feeling crossing the finish line though.

Runners World

This one applies to running and life in general.  It’s a little preachy but some mornings it is important to just put your running shoes on and ‘Get after it’ (Thanks Carrie Tollefson).

Why do you run?

Until next time…
