Fulfilling a dream…meet Alex Emde from a town outside of Cologne, Germany who was in Negril last week for Reggae Marathon.

We caught up with Alex and his girlfriend, Niwa Westendarp on Thursday afternoon when they were picking up their Reggae Marathon Race Kits at the Couples Swept Away Sports Complex. That’s them in the photo above. This was their first time at Reggae Marathon and their first time in Jamaica.  Solid runners both, in answer to the question, ‘why choose Reggae Marathon?’ Alex responded, “It’s been a dream of mine for over 5 years…this year we just knew we had to do it…and here we are”.  And that’s how it starts, the love affair with the Reggae Marathon Experience.

Runners from over 38 countries gathered last week in Negril for the 16th annual Reggae Marathon weekend in Negril.  Over 2,300 lined up for the 5:15 am start when Race Director Frano sent us off in the pre-dawn darkness. Many celebrated their finish with a fresh cut coconut followed by a massage on the beach and a refreshing dip in the Caribbean Sea.  Each was a unique Reggae Marathon Experience. Each was fun!
