Getting Ready for Sweet 16

The entire Reggae Marathon team is getting for Reggae Marathon Sweet 16, December 3 in Negril. Not only do we transport everything from Kingston cross-Island to Negril, we have two separate locations to set up for Race Weekend:  Thursday and Friday we’re set up at the Couples Swept Away Sporting Complex for Registration, Race Kit Pick up and the Pasta Party Friday night, December 2.

Then almost magically, overnight Friday we transfer everything to the Start/Finish Area at Long Bay Beach Park just a short distance east of Couples. Race Day starts early:  5:15 am all three Reggae Marathon events start.  And on time too!

One of the things that makes Reggae Marathon special is that we have Aid Stations at every mile along the closed loop road course.  The army of volunteers rally every year to get water and electrolyte replacement to every Aid Station.  And this hydration is also unique:  Sealed plastic pouches that make it easier to take in fluid with less mess. And eco-friendly as well with less volume of waste left over.

Reggae Music.  Every mile.  Loud!  Need we say more?

Registration for Reggae Marathon is easy:  There are separate online registration sites for International and On-Island Permanent Residents.  While there is no limit, the big advantage to registering now is that we can have your Rack Packet ready for you.  And speaking of the Race Packet, it’s pretty good if I do say so myself (I have 7 so far…looking forward to number 8 this December).  It includes the usual race stuff, race number/timing chip, secial Reggae Marathon T Shirt and other goodies.  And it comes in a cool tote bag.  Look out for the Sweet 16 design soon.  ‘Soon come, mon!’

Pack sunscreen for post-race.  You’ll need it for the post-race activities.  Once you get your Reggae Marathon Sweet 16 Finisher Medal, you exit directly into the ‘party area’.  Hydration is available…including a cold Red Stripe…massages, cool misting tents and music.  This is the traditional area to meet up with fellow runners, share stories and take photos.  Lots of photos.  Make sure to share on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with these hashtags: #reggaemarathon, #rm2016, #rmsweet16.  See you online…and in Negril December 3 for Reggae Marathon Sweet 16!

Until next time…
