“I came in last at Reggae Marathon…

Gail of Negril Tree House

…and I love it!”  That’s Gail Jackson of Negril Tree House on the Beach.

Gail is our Celebrated Last Finisher.  It’s a distinction she’s held for a number of years now and one she proudly and enthusiastically embraces.  If you’ve stayed at Negril Tree House, the Negril Reggae Marathon base for Lisa Laws and the Reggae Runnerz, you know what I mean.  If not, seek her out this December in Negril.  But be forewarned:  you will be infected by her enthusiasm…you have been warned!

I can personally relate to Gail’s experience.  A couple of years ago I broke a couple of bones in my foot shortly before Reggae Marathon and was unable to run.  I walked the 10K in my Walking Cast instead and came in very near the end of 10K Finishers.  Surprise, surprise…it was one of my best experiences.  I stopped to take a picture of the sun rising over the Negril River, I chatted with and encouraged a lot of other walkers and got to meet most of the hard-working volunteers at each of the aid stations…in short, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Of course I had to put up with a bit of good natured ribbing from my running friends but I had better stories.

For other stories about what it’s like to finish last, check out this article:  Coming Last.  If you’ve got an interesting race finish story, we’d love to hear it.  Leave a comment below.

And just to whet your appetite for Reggae Marathon now just over 90 days away, check out this shot of the Negril beach from Negril Tree House:
