Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

After the Reggae Marathon is there anything to do in Negril?

There’s not much to do in Negril. 7 miles of white sand beach with the warm, crystal-clear Caribbean Sea gently lapping on the beach shores is usually enough to cap off a Reggae Marathon running vacation.  It does for Sally and I anyway.

We generally get up early and head directly to the beach grabbing our coffee on the way.  After settling into our lounge chairs, we look at each other and inevitably utter the cliche, “It doesn’t get any better than this”.

After a lazy breakfast in the beach-side restaurant at our hotel, we alternate between lounge chair and Caribbean Sea.  If we are feeling particularly energetic, we’ll head down the beach with our camera taking pictures of what else, the beach!

As lunch approaches we debate what to have.  After reviewing the excellent choices…way too numerous to note here…we generally settle for an outdoor place where we can get some jerk pork, jerk chicken or escovitch fish or brown stew…Sally loves brown stew!  We found a great jerk shack last year…make sure to ask me about it at the Reggae Marathon Pasta Party Friday night.

After lunch, you guessed it, back to the beach.  Last year we met some runners from the Washington, DC area and are looking forward to trading war stories.

Of course I know not everyone wants to spend their entire vacation ‘on the beach’ in Negril.  Fortunately the Jamaica Tourist Board (a sponsor of the Reggae Marathon) is an excellent online resource for learning about all the activities, restaurants and night life that Negril is famous for. Just click on the link to go directly to the Negril page of their web site.

And yes, I’m leaving out the Negril night experience:  what goes on in Negril at night stays in Negril!

So that’s it.  Not too much to do in Negril at the Reggae Marathon.  See you in Negril in a couple of weeks.

Until next time…
