Belgian Family Rivalry at Reggae Marathon?

From Belgium last week we heard from Marcel Gabriels who told us how he and his family made the decision to come to Negril this December for Reggae Marathon.  While Marcel noted that the decision was made ‘over a few beers’, the inspiration came from his younger brother Leo and his wife Daniella.  That’s Leo and Daniella at the Dublin Marathon in the photo above.  Could there be a little friendly sibling rivalry…here’s what we heard from younger brother Leo:

The decision is made, our family signed up for the Reggae Marathon in Jamaica. I’ve seen on your blog my “old” brother who told you a wonderful story about how it started all…. and its all true!  My wife and I did run a marathon in Dublin and it was our dream to do another one but not just anywhere. It had to be special , and what is more special than running it in paradise, Jamaica. And for my wife and I it will be also our (late) honeymoon; your slogan is absolutely also ours: “Come for the run and stay for the fun!”.

Although the decision for this run was made over a few (Belgian) beers, we are surely going to try to finish the Race. Almost everybody is training … almost, because I have been injured and hope to start again real soon. Whatever happens though, I will start and  will do my best to finish!!!

So we hope to see a lot of happy runners and with 5 of the same family, which is a little special,we hope to have a good time in paradise.

Leo and Danielle

Leo, we are looking forward to meeting you and your family in Negril this December.  Thanks for sharing your story. We’ll look out for you at the Reggae Marathon Pasta Party Friday night.

Until next time…
