Inspiring Runners Sharing their Stories

Runners are a special breed.  Most days we get out of our warm beds, slip into our running gear and head out into the pre-dawn to ‘go for a run’.  Thankfully most of us have supportive and understanding significant others!

Some of us run for our health.  Others run for others.  All of us run for very personal reasons.  I found these two stories recently about some very special runners.

  • This is a story about Walter Barrera who chose running over drugs. And for Walter, an ultra long distance runner, it was a life saver:  Running from Addiction

None of us were unaffected by the tragic events in Boston earlier this spring.  For me it struck close to home:  I had  family at the finish line cheering on runners…they left shortly before the bombs went off.  And Deb from Boston, who I met at Reggae Marathon last December, crossed the finish line not long before the bombs went off.  Thankfully no one I knew was physically injured.

  • In this next story, here’s what a couple of Ultra runners recently attempted to show the support for Boston while letting the world know what it means to be part of our running community:   Running from Washington to Boston  (That’s Frank Fumish on the left and Matt Nelson on the right in the photo above).

I love runners!

Until next time…
