Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

Lady runners on the march

Or maybe it should be ‘Lady runners on the run!’

Running has enjoyed a resurgence recently which is good news to my ears…more people running makes the world a better place in my view.  And while Marathons and now Ultra Marathons and Adventure Race events pop up more frequently in the news, just plain running is is growing.  And that growth is being fueled by Female Runners who now represent 56% of race finishers overall.

The running event that is growing fastest is the Half Marathon with a 14.9% year-over-year growth.  And get this:  60% of Half Marathon participants are women!  I guess women do rule the world…or at least the Half Marathon.

These are statistics reported recently about the state of running in the United States and they provide great insight on the robust state of running.  For the full article with tons of interesting information check this link:  State of Running, 2013.

At Reggae Marathon we were not totally surprised by these statistics.  Both the 10K and Half Marathon race events continue to grow in participation every year.  And if you’ve been following our blogs and articles you know that we’re expecting an ‘Invasion of Ladies‘ at this year’s Reggae Marathon, December 7.  Guys…if ever there was the time to pick up the pace on our training, now would be it.

Until next time…
