Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

The International Association of Athletes Federation (IAAF) and USA Track & Field (USATF) have re-certified the three race courses for the Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K annual sporting event to be held in Negril this year from December 1 to 3. In addition, the organisations have declared the course measurement accurate.

“This is a requirement every five years and we comply accordingly. This also means that the course is a qualifier for the World Championships, the Olympics and the setting of a world record,” said Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, Race Director of Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K.

He further noted that the race time limit for this year’s Marathon event has been changed to remain open for six hours. However, each marathoner will need to reach the half-way mark in three hours to complete the Marathon race, he noted.

Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon & 10 K will begin on Saturday, December 3, promptly at 5:15 a.m. at Long Bay Beach Park, located along Negril’s seven-mile beach, and loop into the town, before heading north towards Green Island.

Persons who would not have registered on line up to November 27, will get a chance to do so, at an additional fee, on Thursday, December 1 and Friday December 2 at Couples Swept Away Sports Complex, Negril. Following the races on Saturday, December 3, a Victory Beach Party & Awards Ceremony will be held at Long Bay Beach Park.

This will be the 16th staging of the event, which has gained international recognition as a well-organised global event, with strong focus on runner enjoyment. Over the years, the event has been included in the London Paper’s list of ‘Top 10 Marathons Around the World’, in addition to many other prestigious sport publications and has also been described as the ‘Top 10 Places to Run a Marathon’ by New York writer, Mark Wollin, in his column Glancing Askance.

Registration opened on January 1, 2016 and continues on line at
