The Google Earth photo above will be the center of my universe from December 4 to 6 this year. As it will be for a couple thousand runners in Negril for the 14th Reggae Marathon.
Taking a closer look at the photo and you’ll see the Couples Swept Away Resort and Sporting Complex. The Sporting Complex is the location for Race Kit Pickup and the Reggae Marathon Pasta Party. If you’re staying at one of the other hotels in Negril, check out this link to find out how far you will be from both Swept Away and Long Bay Beach Park (distances are shown for each hotel): Negril Hotels. Look out for me Friday in and around the Media Tent that’s set up on the way to the Pasta Party.
Back to the Google Earth photo. Just to the left of the Couples Swept Away Resort is an open field. See it? That’s Long Bay Beach Park. After the Pasta Party wraps up on Friday night, the amazing Reggae Marathon support crew and volunteers transfer everything the short distance to Long Bay Beach Park. That’s our world on Saturday: All three Reggae Marathon events start and finish at Long Bay Beach Park. A convenient Baggage Check area is right near the Start line. The post-race party including music and award presentations also take place at Long Bay Beach Park. That’s a Reggae Marathoner enjoying herself in this photo.
Just behind the stage is the gateway to the beach. Massage tables are set up and the gently lapping Caribbean provides a refreshing massage as well…both are great for aching muscles. Plus it’s a tradition to go for a plunge in the Sea, running gear and all right after finishing.
So get set to run, have fun and enjoy the sun at Reggae Marathon December 6!
Until next time…
