Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

Never enough time at Reggae Marathon

There is never enough time at Reggae Marathon…

This will be my 5th consecutive Reggae Marathon.  Since my first, I’ve enjoyed my annual vacation on the miles of soft, white, sandy beaches in Negril. As well, I’ve enjoyed the race event and everything surrounding Reggae Marathon race weekend.  Catching up with friends each year is the real highlight but there is never enough time…

I like to get into Negril the Wednesday before race weekend.  My first run on Thursday morning is my favourite. I get out early so that I can get a good run in before breakfast so that I can spend the most amount of time on the beach.  And I do love the Negril beach but, there is never enough time…

Friday morning I head out for another early morning run before heading over to the Couples Swept Away Sports Complex to pick up my race kit.  Inevitably I run into Reggae Marathon volunteers and staff  and before you know it it’s lunch.   What was supposed to be a quick stop has pleasantly turned into lots of catch-up conversations.  There really is never enough time…

Race day at Reggae Marathon comes early:  pre-dawn early…5:15 am start.  And not ‘Jamaica time’!  Reggae Marathon Race Director Frano sends us off promptly at 5:15 am.  Don’t be late…

Post-race at Reggae Marathon is the highlight.  Unlike at most race when the goal is to pick up your bag and get out. At Reggae Marathon there is the fresh cut coconut, Red Stripe beer and swim in the Caribbean.  I never want it to end…

The only time I wish would speed up instead of slowing down is over the next 5 months!  See you in Negril!

Until next time…
