A whole lot of ladies arrive in Jamaica in early December to take over Negril. Reggae Runnerz! You’ll see them on the beach, at the Pasta Party and of course running on the road Saturday morning December 7. In their specially designed T Shirts, they will be easy to spot. Here’s Lisa Laws from New York with some background on the Reggae Runnerz:
Reggae Runnerz…who are we? We are a runners from various running groups (Black Girls Run!, Team Run, Burn & Shrink!!, Brooklyn Running Club, Inland Empire Running club, to name a few) across the US who have come together to “RUN…WHERE THE SUN MEETS THE SEA” at the Reggae Marathon in Negril, Jamaica. We also share the excitement of going to Jamaica to run, relax, meet new people and make memories.
As a combined group, Reggae Runnerz support Green Island School in Jamaica by donating school supplies and slightly used sneakers. Green Island students have been making great strides, not only excelling academically, but the school fields a team in the Reggae Marathon and their athletes are exceptional.
Even as we get closer to Reggae Marathon 2013, December 7, the Reggae Runnerz are looking forward to Reggae Marathon 2014. Whew! But I love it! Here is the latest ‘tease’ from Lisa:
We have not even gotten to Jamaica yet and the planning for Reggae Marathon 2014 has already begun. We have had a couple of organizers of various running groups who have contacted us and asked to join the Reggae Runnerz next year. It is amazing how people are finding out about us…and to think, we only started with 30 people!
Lisa and the Reggae Runnerz were always going to be easy to spot on the Beach in Negril…now even easier in their distinctive T Shirts!
Until next time…
