REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR 2016 REGGAE MARATHON, HALF-MARATHON &10K

Registration is now open for 2016 Reggae Marathon, Half-Marathon & 10K  event in Negril.

Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, Race Director for Reggae Marathon, Half-Marathon & 10K said his organisation began accepting on-line registration from both local and international participants as of  Friday, January 1, 2016.

He said this year’s event will be under the theme “Sweet Sixteen” to mark the 16th anniversary of the event.

Last year’s Reggae Marathon, Half-Marathon & 10K saw participation from runners and walkers representing 31 countries, including a contingent of 449 runners and 100 cheerleaders comprising Reggae Runnerz out of the USA.

During their stay in Negril for the event last month, members of Reggae Runnerz presented a cheque for US$7,000 to the Green Island High School from a members-only crowd funding initiative.  In addition the group sponsored three young runners from the school to participate in the 2015 Reggae Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10K.

“We are now waiting to hear from the school as to the number of students who will be going to the Penn Relays, so we can provide them with new running shoes. We are also planning to send a contingency from Reggae Runnerz to the event in Philadelphia to cheer on the Green Island students.  Also, our plan for 2016 is to pay the exam fees for selected students at the school,” said Lisa Laws, founder of  Reggae Runnerz, a group of runners from various clubs across the U.S. who have come together to “run where the sun meets the sea”.
