Running with Dick Beardsley in Jamaica was what these lucky runners got to do while on a recent Caribbean cruise. Dick Beardsley gained international fame at the 1982 Boston Marathon for coming in second to Alberto Salazar in one of the closest Marathon finishes ever. His story is one of true inspiration for overcoming setbacks. You can check him out here: Dick Beardsley, Staying the Course. I can only imagine how these runners felt when they headed out from their cruise ship when it docked in Ocho Rios. Their Cruise Run was organized with help from the Jamaica Tourist Board and Running Events Jamaica.
Three of the Cruise Run runners: From left, Simon Taylor, who emerged overall male winner, Kristen Page and Fred Wagner.
Another couple of Cruise Runners, Vincenia Ferguson and Tanisha Richardson.
Now that’s a crowd of runners! If this is how all cruise vacations are, sign me up!
On the scene: Reggae Marathon’s Diane Ellis, Jill Beardsley of the Dick Beardsley Foundation, Jason Hall, Deputy Director, Jamaica Tourist Board and Dick Beardsley.
Until next time…
