Recovery strategies. What you do to recover after a strenuous race is very important to keep you healthy and running. Here are the most important ones:
- Start your recovery immediately. You carbed up the week prior to your race, now it’s time to heavy up on the protein to help your damaged muscle tissue recover. Don’t eliminate the carbs just shift the emphasis. Post-race recovery fluids and drinks heavy on protein is a good start immediately finishing.
- It’s called a ‘Recovery Run’ and it may be sluggish but you need to get back to running as soon as you can after a long, hard race. Don’t push it, go slowly and listen to your body. If you have to walk, walk! Just keep moving.
