Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

Food, food, glorious…and healthy for you…food!

The Reggae Marathon Pasta Party at the Couples Swept Away Sporting Complex takes care of the carbo loading before Saturday morning’s race start.  Fresh coconut, bananas and cold Red Stripe beer takes care of post race recovery.  For breakfast early Saturday morning before heading over to the Reggae Marathon start I like to have a light breakfast of toast with guava jam washed down with coffee and I add Gatorade to the coconut water and banana after the race.  Recently we heard about some additional pre and post race favourites.

Pre-race:

  • Sharen: “peanut butter and banana on whole meal toast and a cup of tea 🙂 scrummy”
  • Olga:  “coffee, cinnamon bagel with chocolate GU. Don’t knock it till you tried it! lol”
  • Daniel: “Toast with butter and honey, one banana and of course … a large cup of coffee (or tea, if it is cold outside)”
  • Michele:  Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter from Peanut Butter & Co. on a whole wheat bagel and coffee!”
  • Debbonaire: “Yogurt and a banana”
  • Trudy:  Before a half marathon or run of 8 miles or more:  peanut butter & jelly on whole wheat and a banana.  Never fails.

Post-race:

  • Lorna: “Homemade banana & pineapple protein shake.”
  • Larry: “peanut butter & banana wrapped in a pancake”
  • Michele: “Capriotti’s Bobbie sandwich!! It has turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing…like Thanksgiving on a roll!”
  • Kevin: “Red stripe!”

Did we miss yours?  Leave a comment with your favourites.

Until next time…
