Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

Love and hate the new Reggae Marathon course

There’s a new course for this year’s 11th running of the Reggae Marathon.  The start/finish is still at Long Bay Beach Park.  Race Director Frano will send all us off at 5:15 am on Saturday morning.  10 K runners and ½ marathoners will run the same course as in previous years.  Full marathoners will have a new experience however:  instead of continuing on to Green Island, you’ll turn at the ½ marathon turning point and complete 2 loops of the ½ marathon course.  Take a look at the course map below.

Love it…hate it!

I hate the feeling of running alone from mile 13 to mile 16. Talk about digging deep in order to finish. “Thank you” volunteers at each mile's aid station.

I love the feeling of running alone out to the ‘old’ marathon turn just past mile 16 at Green Island.  On my way in to Negril from Montego Bay I always look forward to picking up the marker on the road.

I’m not looking forward to passing the start/finish line with 1/2 marathoners finishing. Thankfully on the second loop I'll get to say thanks to the volunteers twice.

I am looking forward to running past the start/finish line on the new double-loop Reggae Marathon course. Listening to the energy of the race announcer not once but THREE times will be great.

In the end, I’m looking forward to running on the road in Negril.  Reggae Marathon is always a special experience with a noisy and enthusiastic crowd all along the race route.  Saturday, December 3 can’t come soon enough.

Until next time…
