Road Trip! Negril 2 weeks today!
My second favourite part of the drive from Montego Bay to Negril is at the high point in the road on the approach to Lucea. From that vantage point you can look across the bay itself and see the bustling town of Lucea. It is my gateway to the other world experience that is Negril every December at Reggae Marathon.
My favourite part of the drive is driving into and through the town of Lucea itself. I always look out for this road sign:
I’m staying at a lovely hotel along the Negril Beach about a mile from the Reggae Marathon start/finish area at Long Bay Beach Park. It has a great beach of course and the staff go out of their way to ensure we have a great experience. But it’s like that at many of the hotels in Negril.
What I like about this hotel is the walk to the start line of Saturday morning. Yes we can take one of the regular free shuttles that run from the Round-a-bout in Negril to the 9 mile turn-a-round but the brisk walk with other runners is a special treat. One year we walked with a fellow runner from Japan who sang in Japanese! We had no idea what he was singing but it sounded great. While he hasn’t been back since, he still sends updates on his round-the-world running experiences. Miss you Nida! Come back again soon!!
Another nice thing about Negril is that I close my calendar and forget about daily schedules. Other than making sure I get to the Pasta Party Friday night early at 5 pm and making it to the start of Reggae Marathon Saturday morning for the 5:15 am start, the most I plan is where to point the lounger on the beach. And should we have a Patty or go for some Jerk at lunch.
