Negril After Race Weekend

After Reggae Marathon race weekend there are options:  Relax on the beach or take in a few sights.  Although located on the western tip of Jamaica, there are things to see and do that are within easy driving distance.  Your hotel Concierge or Front Desk is a good start…JUTA Negril is an excellent option for putting together day trips from Negril.  And what are some of those excursions:

Are you a golfer?  The Negril Hills Golf Club located in the rolling hills just east of Negril is an excellent option:  ‘This 18-hole par 72 course measuring 6,333 yards is distinguished by gently undulating fairways, elevated tees and greens, picturesque water hazards and lush tropical vegetation. A tennis court, pro shop, and our intimate club house with its full service restaurant and dining facilities compliments the ambiance of play and relaxation for golfers and non-golfers alike’

Like Rum? (Who doesn’t…in moderation of course).  The Appleton Estate should be on your must-visit list: ‘Appleton Estate is authentic Jamaican rum that is made in the Cockpit Country – a unique, lush and fertile terrain that is nestled inland, in Jamaica’s beating heart. The beautifully complex and aromatic Appleton Estate rums are produced on our estate, which makes it one of the few rums in the world to claim a terroir.’

Waterfalls?  That’s near Negril as well at YS Falls:  ‘A nature-based attraction offering the opportunity to experience the beauty of the waterfalls surrounded by lush gardens and magnificent trees. There are seven waterfalls, several which cascade into natural pools. Some areas are fairly rocky and river shoes are recommended. Lifeguards on site, indicate which areas are for swimming, however, being able to swim is a requirement. There is a natural pool, fed by underground and above ground springs, which is more suitable for children and others unable to swim.’

Crocodiles your thing?  Black River Safari won’t disappoint:  ‘The 11 1/2 hour boat tour up the Black River is well worth it. Cruise in a comfortable Safari boat past giant Red Mangrove trees with their stilt-like roots cascading from heights of over 40′ down into the tranquil waters. See the rare and endangered American Crocodile in it’s natural habitat and view some of the 100 species of exotic birds in these unspoiled wetlands. You can also view local fisherman still catching fresh crabs in long, thin, traditional wooden canoes – in the same river as the crocodiles!’

So whether you want to kick back on the beach after Reggae Marathon Race Weekend or explore some local adventures, it’s all ready and waiting in and around Negril.

Until next time…
