Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

Pack my bags

It’s time to pack my bags!  3 1/2 weeks to go to Reggae Marathon 2015, Saturday, December 5.  Here’s what I’ve assembled so far:

  • Two pairs of Running Shoes.  One is slightly used and I’m dropping those off in the Running Shoe donation bin for kids without shoes.
  • Two pairs of running socks.  I like the low-rise poly-pro technical socks.
  • Running gear.  Short tights, 2 tops including my sleeveless racing singlet.
  • Running hat.  Not absolutely necessary for the 10K but highly recommended if you’re running/walking the Half Marathon and especially if you’re running the full Marathon.
  • Bathing suit.  I may even pack an extra one this year to change things up a bit on the beach.
  • T Shirts.  Lots of T shirts.
  • Sunscreen.  It’s Negril in December!  I love laying out in the sun on the beach but am not fond of sun burns.  SPR 30+ usually does the trick.
  • Smartphone.  I don’t run with earbuds but I love taking pictures and posting to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Use these hashtags to participate in the conversation:  #RM2015, #reggaemarathon, #visitjamaica
  • Travel documents.  If you’re travelling from outside Jamaica, make sure your travel documents are in order: Passport, Visa if necessary, Plane tickets.
  • Money.  US, Euro or Canadian…all are easily convertable into JA$’s at the Exchange Booth at the airport in Montego Bay or at your hotel in Negril.  I like to change a small amount into JA$’s for small purchases.

So all my gear is laid out on the bed in our guest room.  Yes, you can understand the looks I’ve gotten from my wife. But she should be used to it by now…this is my 7th consecutive running Reggae Marathon. See you on the beach…!

Until next time…
