It’s true what they say, don’t try anything new on race day. In order to prepare for your race, you should find out about the nutrition (gels, gummies, etc.) that will be provided by the race. And, if you re able to, use that when you are doing your training runs. You want to make sure that what is provided agrees with your stomach. If you’ve tried it and it’s not something that you can tolerate, be sure to bring enough with you for your race. A good rule of thumb is that you will need to ingest gels or another form of nutrition every 45 minutes, but keep in mind that it is different for everyone.
All races provide water and usually a sports drink too. Just like the gels or gummies, make sure that it is something that your stomach can tolerate. And don’t make the mistake to throw the sports drink on your head to cool off. Use the water for that!
