The Gabriels’ Red Stripe Reward was cold and very refreshing indeed!  And well deserved after they completed the full Reggae Marathon in Negril recently.

Months ago over a few beers in a pub in Belgium, they decided to come to Negril to run the full Reggae Marathon (Marcel’s Reggae Marathon Adventure) That was their first decision and we agreed with them that it was a good one.  Then they made a second decision:  “No beer until after successfully completing Reggae Marathon” (No Beer till after Reggae Marathon). Whoa… Could they be serious?  Could they actually refrain from beer for the months leading up to Reggae Marathon?

We caught up with the entire family the day before Reggae Marathon when they were picking up their Race Kits.  After shaking hands and hugging like we were old friends, the first question was whether they had managed to stick with their ‘no beer till after Reggae Marathon’ plan. “Yes” Marcel replied, “Saving it for Saturday after we finish Reggae Marathon…our Red Stripe Reward!” And a nice Reward it was:  A cold Red Stripe! Congratulations…well done!

I saw and waved to Marcel and his daughter as they headed past the Start/Finish Line on their second loop.  They looked strong and relaxed.  Impressed and impressive…great job!  Hope we’ll see you again in Negril for another Red Stripe Reward!
