Runners tell their Reggae Marathon stories

There are many interesting stories from Reggae Marathon runners.  Here are a couple more that get to the heart of the Negril experience.

Jessie B. from Albuquerque, New Mexico ran the Marathon

Jamaica is not just for running. Ed and I came to Negril December 2-6, 2010.  We stayed at the Negril Tree House Resort. Our accommodations were outstanding:  the staff, food, everything were great, can’t say enough good things about Tree House.  Gail was a great host; we look forward to our trip this year.

We played Negril Hill Golf Course on Friday.  The course is quite hilly, on each hole you are playing up the hill or down the hill.  If you are not playing up or down a hill you are playing from a side hill lie.  The course is challenging and fun to play.  Ed and I had a good time and enjoyed playing together.

Saturday I participated in my first marathon.  It was a challenge but I did and plan to do it again next year. .

Sunday Ed and I played White Witch Golf Course in Montego Bay.  On my way to the driving range the scenery was so beautiful, I stopped to take a picture of the view.  When I made it to the first tee I took another picture.  On number two tee box was another beautiful view and I took another picture.  When I made it to number three tee box I realized this is a beautiful course and every hole is a picture perfect moment.  We were very happy to play such a nice course.

Ed and had a wonderful time and plan to come back next year, we invite you to join us for a fabulous trip. Until next time

Cheryl and Brian H. were celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary, and came to Negril all the way from Seattle.

Hello All,

We had a fabulous experience at the Reggae Marathon.  It started before dawn at 5:15 with a lot of fan fare: local drummers, torch lights and pulsing reggae music.

Every mile was well stocked with Gatorade sealed in plastic bags.  You had to bite off the corner and suck it down.  There were medics riding along the route ensuring all the runners were well hydrated and feeling okay.  Locals were out in force either running, cheering or playing music. We really felt part of the community.

This was Brian’s 500th road race including 60 marathons.  This was my 27th marathon.  There were only 120 participants in the full marathon and there were segments when we did not see another sole on the course.  It was wonderful to have Brian with me every step of the way.  He even let me cross the finish line first!  I’m one heck of a lucky gal!

Ya mon!  We be irie!

Until next time…
