Yesterday marked 5 months til the Reggae Marathon. At 5:15 am in the morning, you will line up with over 2000 other runners ready to take on the streets of Negril. Our race Director Frano will sound the horn and you will take off and run, jog, or walk. It will still be dark so be careful of other runners. If you plan to walk the race, please be respectful of others and start at the back to the corrals. Given that it is dark, it will be harder for other runners to see if you are running or walking so for everyone’s safety, start in the appropriate corral for your pace.
Enjoy the first quarter mile or so as the street is lined with tiki torches, and you’ll hear the steel pan drums play some Bob Marley. After that just take and run the race at your pace. Enjoy the course, take the water and the other electrolyte drinks that are given out throughout the race and don’t forget to make the trip through the misting tents along the way. They’ll help keep you cool as the sun starts to rise.
Most importantly, don’t be late, the race does start precisely at 5:15 am. And the sooner you finish, the sooner you get your Red Stripe and fresh coconut.
See you in December!
