Visiting Port Antonio

Visiting Port Antonio

A few years back, on my annual trip to Jamaica for the Reggae Marathon, I had the opportunity to visit Port Antonio. On previous trips, I visited Kingston, Ocho Rios, and Montego Bay but this was the first time that I made the trip to Port Antonio. I had heard of Port Antonio and knew about its beauty, but it wasn’t until I got there that I was truly able to understand how blue to water could be.

I didn’t have much time when I went to Port Antonio so I was limited to the places that I could visit. I decided to go to the Blue Lagoon. I took a bamboo raft ride. It was great to have a guide take me around the water. We stopped at a small island not to far from the shore where the guide took me up a hill. We walked through the brush, over and under branches and trees all the way to the top. The views from the top were spectacular.

Going to Port Antonio was quite an experience and I’m glad I went. I hope to go back when I take another trip to Jamaica. But I think on my next trip, I want to go for a hike in the Blue Mountains. Where are your favorite places outside of Negril? If you are looking for other places to visit while in Negril for the Reggae Marathon this year, be sure to check out the Visit Jamaica website. You will find many resources for your next trip to Negril.
