Celebrating 20 Years of the Reggae Marathon

Celebrating 20 Years of the Reggae Marathon

This year marks 20 years of The Reggae Marathon. It will be a celebration; a party! A race that started with less than a thousand runners has doubled in size. And those runners have stories. I have had the opportunity and pleasure to meet many runners over the years in Negril. They include the women’s marathon winner in 2011, a warrior runner with Multiple Sclerosis, a man who started running at the age of 58 and has run over 300 marathons, and a couple who, as it turns out, are my neighbors in New York City. (I didn’t know them before we met on the beach in Negril, but now see them running through the neighborhood or at the local grocery store. It really is a small world.)

Throughout the year we will highlight runners who have run the Reggae Marathon in the past. Some who may have run the race once, others who have come to the Reggae Marathon ten years, fifteen years, or even more. Every runner has a story and we’re here to share them. If you have a story, let us know. Runners make the race as special as it is.

I continue to go to Negril and meet new people who become my friends. Join the party and you will too.
