Getting Ready for your Race in Negril

Getting Ready for your Race in Negril

Have you registered for the Reggae Marathon yet? Do you know what distance you want to run? While there are still eight months til the race, there are still things that you can do now to prepare for your race.

Depending on where you live, you should do some runs in the early in the morning. A 5:15 am start time is early and it’s still dark so it would be beneficial to get a few runs in early so you can make adjustments in your sleeping and eating schedule that aligns with race day.  It’s also dark at the start of the race with minimal lights when you start the race, so it would be good to try some runs where you have minimal lighting (but be sure to stay safe while doing so.)

If you live in a climate where you can get some runs where the temperatures get to the high 70’s to low 80’s that would be another way to prepare yourself for the race. It does get hot and there is extraordinarily little shade along the course. Take advantage of the misting stations that you find along the course and be sure to drink the water and sports drink that is also on the course as you’ll want to stay hydrated during your run. There are times when I take one of the water pouches and puncture it with my teeth and pour it on my head to remain cool. I’ll do that several times throughout my run to stay as cool as possible. At the end of the race, I’ll take advantage of the misting tent. I have not been brave enough to jump into the ice baths.

Stay tuned for more tips for your upcoming Reggae Marathon.

Keep on Running.
