Reggae Marathon working hard to be green

Running a green race is a major challenge for all Race Directors. Reggae Marathon is no exception.  But there are a number of things that Reggae Marathon has pioneered that keep us at the leading edge of being environmentally responsible.

  1. Water and Hi-Lyte hydration in plastic pouches.  At first-blush this doesn’t seem really all that green.  But here’s the thin:  not only is it the best way to consume fluids during the race the amount of post-race material is significantly reduced.
  2. Reggae Marathon re-cycles gently used running shoes.  When packing for Reggae Marathon this December 1, pack all your gently used running shoes and donate them in the specially marked bins.  You will be helping the youngsters who don’t have shoes.  Bonus:  you won’t have to carry them back home
  3. Solar powered misting tents.  We get a lot of sun in Negril.  This is a no-brainer and it works.  Make sure you stop in after your race.

Daina and Tasha hard at work

And of course the clean-up crew.  These Reggae Marathon volunteers work hard to clean up during and immediately after the race events on December 1.  Here’s  a great photo of two Reggae Marathon volunteers who were part of our greening team last year. Thank you very much for your hard work to help make Reggae Marathon as green as possible.

Until next time…
