Sole Sisters run Jamaica

Sole Sisters run Jamaica

The Sole Sisters run Jamaica again this December 8 at Reggae Marathon 2019!  What started as 9 women in 2014 has grown to 45 this year.  And they’ll be easy to spot in their ‘Sole Sisters Run Jamaica’ shirts.  “Jamaica…It is a beautiful island..we will exercise and make new friends…what’s not to love?” notes Deneen Walters who brought this group together:

We are women from throughout the United States.  It is always said that women cannot get along.  For my 50th birthday I thought that it would be great if I could get a group of women together that didn’t know each other but knew me. They would be required to share a room, promote health by running a race, and make new friends to prove to people that it does not matter what your economic status, race, or religious beliefs are. As long as you have a good spirit, you will have a fantastic time no matter where you go or who you go with.

I encouraged a group of nine ladies to participate in the Reggae Marathon Weekend held in Jamaica’, in 2014. ‘Many in the group did not know each other beforehand but had one common goal–enjoy the friendship of great women in beautiful, tropical surroundings. The trip was a rousing success, and the decision was immediately made to plan such an event annually.

Our ages range from mid 20s to early 60s.  I am the common denominator. Most participants will meet for the first time during the trips  and become spiritual sisters. We live all over the US and represent a wide variety of races, ethnicities, and professions.  We have a few rules.  You are not allowed to talk about what you do for a living, your spouse or your children and you are not allowed to bring a friend; all you can talk about is yourself. We do everything together for the entire weekend.   Our focus is to develop meaningful bonds with lots of laughter. This is an experience that leaves all  the ladies in awe.

Deneen, thanks for sharing.  We look forward to meeting you all again in just a few weeks now.

Until next time…
