Spectators Guide to Reggae Marathon 2012

Everything you need to catch the 12th running of Reggae Marathon. OK, a bit of an exaggeration but not by

much… šŸ™‚

Date: Saturday, December 1, 2012

Race Start: 5:15am at Long Bay Beach Park

Spectating at Reggae Marathon is inspirational thanks to the amazing people out there running a marathon of 26.2 miles, a half-marathon of 13.1 miles or a 10K of 6.2 miles. Seeing runners from all walks of life and over 30 countries does wonders in the inspiration department. Itā€™s awesome to see the range of ages (up to over 80 years old), shapes, and sizes that come to Negril to be a Reggae Runner. Some will complete the race at top speeds, others will run towards the goal of finishing. Everyone will have their own reasons for reaching the start line and each will need stamina, both mental and physical, to finish. Pretty amazing, right?

26.2 Miles of Inspiration

The best place to watch the race is the start and finish area at Long Bay Beach Park ā€” or right outside your hotel door!

The Course:
The Reggae Marathon is run on a unique looped course giving you more than one opportunity to see elite runners and your new runner friends. Marathoners do two loops, while half marathoners do one loop. Itā€™s double the loop, double the Reggae excitement, double the Reggae music and double the Reggae vibe! Plus we have notable miles dedicated to our inspirations. Mile 19 is dedicated to all Reggae Runners by the Jamdammers Running Club of Kingston, organizers of the Reggae Marathon for the past 11 years. While Mile 25, the last mile, honours the great Bob Marley. Both miles feature a live band playing sweet Reggae music.

Finish Line Beach Bash at 7:00 am
The place for all the Reggae action is the Start and Finish Line at Long Bay Beach Park. Apart from the always-exciting race finishes, the Finish Line Beach Bash begins at 7:00 am with live entertainment including award presentations to the winners.

Getting to Long Bay Beach Park
The race route on Norman Manley Boulevard will be closed from 4am to 12 noon from the Negril Roundabout to Club Riu. The only way to get around is by shuttle bus or a walk along the beach. Shuttle buses can be picked up on Norman Manley Boulevard during the road closure. Refer to the course map below for shuttle stops. Go out and enjoy the Reggae Marathon! Who knows, you might end up being the inspiration. . . Your shouts of encouragement may motivate a runner to reach the finish line!
