Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Races

You’re Invited!

Here’s your invitation:  Reggae Marathon Registration.  I expect your RSVP this week 🙂

Reggae Marathon is a multi-day event.  First up is the Pasta Party Friday night.  A lot’s been written about “The World’s Best Pasta Party” held outdoors under the stars at the Couples Swept Away Sporting Complex.  “Rasta Pasta” is a favourite but there are a lot other pasta and salad dishes to sample.  Carbo loading has never been more enjoyable.  The Pasta Party starts around 5 pm. Come early.

Then it’s an early-to-bed on Friday night ahead of the early morning wake up to make it in time for the 5:15 am Reggae Marathon start Saturday morning.  Not 5:16 am…5:15 am!  Reggae Marathon Race Director Frano is proud of his 13 year unbroken on-time streak and he assures me he’ll be sending us off on time again this year.  Get to the Start Area at Long Bay Beach Park early to soak in the pre-race atmosphere.  Loud Reggae Music, lots of opportunities for ‘Selfies’.  Water and electrolyte hydration are available in plastic pouches right by the start area.  These hydration pouches are unique to Reggae Marathon and are available at each and every Aid Station located at every mile along the closed course.

Reggae Marathon 2013

At the mass start, all 3 Reggae Marathon race events are set off at the same time:  Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K.  Enjoy the drums and torch lights at the start before heading out into the pre-dawn darkness that lasts for the first 45 minutes or so.  Don’t worry…the entire course is run on flat, paved roads with Street lights.  Reggae Marathon has Aid Stations at every Mile along the course. Water and hydration of course plus Music…it’s Reggae Marathon!

If you’re running the full Marathon or Half Marathon, make sure to bring and wear a hat.  It does warm up once the sun comes up and you want to keep your head covered.  Also, wear sunscreen. The waterproof kind is best.

Then, once you cross the finish line back at Long Bay Beach Park and have collected your Finisher’s Medal, you’re invited to what has to be one of the best post-race events in the world! Fresh cut coconuts, cold Red Stripe Beer and live music all morning!  Lots of opportunities to catch up with family and friends and take Selfies.

But what makes Reggae Marathon really special is going for a swim in the warm Caribbean Sea immediately outside the Finish Area. You won’t need your bathing suit…just head out in your running gear.  But make sure to pack a towel!

Reggae Marathon 2013Red Stripe, Coconut, Finisher’s Medal, Caribbean Sea…Reggae Marathon checks all the boxes! See you in less than 23 days!

Until next time…
